3 Mobile Commerce Trends To Watch
Mobile commerce or as mCommerce is here to stay. The industry has seen some major growth in the last two decades. If you do not already allow customers to purchase via mobile, you may be missing out.
IMRG did some released research, during February 2015, revealing that in the UK, website visits from smartphones and tablets account for 45% of all eCommerce traffic. This is a huge chunk of people to miss out on.
Google, rightfully, favors mobile friendly sites by ranking them higher in search results. What this means is that those without a strong mCommerce platform could possibly be missing out on brand exposure, as well as revenue from almost 50% of those who will visit their website.
Just to give an idea of how much revenue is being missed by retailers, the Centre for Retail Research and VoucherCodes.co.uk found that £6.6 billion annually is missed due to a lack of mobile commerce access.
These are 3 trends that you should expect to see continue, and be prepared for:
1. Push notifications. These are underrated. A mobile app with push notifications allows an efficient and personalized way to reach your audience.
2. Personalised content, viewable on multiple devices. Companies like Amazon are taking the lead in this area by offering geolocation services, and targeting content to visitors according to where they are and the businesses around them.
More companies are building personalized apps as they see the increased value in mCommerce, and this trend will continue to grow.
3. Mobile Messaging Commerce. With the rise of platforms like Wechat in China, and messaging apps outgrowing social networking platforms, it only makes sense that we will start to discover new products and purchase directly from these apps.
Wechat has already introduced payment and eCommerce, the device manufacturer Xiami teamed up with Wechat to sell over 150, 000 smartphones through the platform, in 10 minutes. What happens when platforms like Whatsapp do the same?
